HP38/W231 has few weaknesses. excellent aiming, shooting, and precision. As far as I can tell, there are no drawbacks. I just barely pass the 125-pf IDPA minimum when I use 4.3 grains of 231 under a 165-grain 40-caliber load. A 5″ competition gun would generate a few more fps, allowing the shooter to easily make PF, compared to a full-size M&P. This extremely lightweight load will provide you with acceptable targeting precision. To get it to cycle, I had to swap in a lighter 13-pound recoil spring. As soon as the problem was identified and fixed, it started performing like new.
